Dear Colleagues,
This is a special notice calling on all colleagues who may have
a special interest in psycho-geriatrics, either because you are
rapidly heading in that direction or because you have an
interest in dealing with elderly people.
As you may be aware, this field encompasses various aspects of
medicine including not only psychiatry, psychology and
psycho-pharmacology but also internal medicine and as such is
and can be a challenging field. Added to the above are the needs
and rights of the elderly which are often neglected. Therefore
an advocacy role has to be added to the work undertaken by any
psychiatrist dealing with the elderly.
I would like to invite you to join the group so that we can look
at further developing this area of psychiatry and thus improve
the care of the elderly.
A morning seminar is planned in Johannesburg for May 2008.
Speakers will include geriatricians, psychiatrists and
neurologists, so it will be of interest to people working in any
of these fields.
